PROJECTS & ACTIVITIES

University of Ghana, Legon

Our activities in 2016 continued as in previous years, focusing mainly on our beneficiaries in Senior High School. Unfortunately, our vision to replicate MerryKids activities across the Akuapem District and elsewhere in Ghana has not materialize due to constraints on financial and human resources. In spite of these constraints we have maintained our commitment to create opportunities for under-privileged children in twenty two schools in ten villages. We continued to focus on enhancing the achievements of our Senior High School students and in that frame curtailed the recruitment of primary school candidates on to the MKF programme. A high number of beneficiaries are now in Junior High School with a growing number successfully gaining admissions in to Senior High School. Our Senior High School graduates Rosemary Asantewaa Ofori and Rosamond Asantewaa Ofori made applications to the University of Ghana and University of Science and Technology to read Law and Sonography respectively. Rosamond is also considering making an application to Nursing School. If successful, Rosemary and Rosamond will be good role models for other students and our motivation to carry on creating opportunities for under-privileged children in Ghana.

Projects: Primary and Junior High School

MerryKids Foundation has sixteen schools with a total of seventy one school children in Primary and Junior High Schools (JHS).   Nine schools have both Primary and JHS, six schools are JHS only and three schools have children in Primary only.   Most of the children are now in JHS. Thirty-one children are in the primary section. Forty students are in JHS, of which seventeen are in JHS 3 so would have written BECE exams June 2017. This is the highest number of JHS finalists who have written BECE. It is our assumption that a quarter or even a third would make the pass mark for entry into Senior High School this academic year 2017/18. We have taken on only one Primary school pupil, Pamela Donkor, within the past three years.

An Invitation to Sponsor a Student

We have on our centre page fifteen Senior High School students at different levels of their education; University candidates, final year Secondary School students preparing to sit exams for University; Secondary School beginners , i.e., form 2 (Year 8) and form 1(Year 7).

We are inviting individuals sponsors for the above students – sponsorship can be a one off (towards a student or multiple, sponsorship for a 1, 2, 3 terms, a year, 2 years or for the duration of the student’s study.

You will have direct contact with the students to check on their progress in addition to MKF’s yearly reports.
